The decomposition of organic thoughts into a digital residue that, much like traditional compost (or manure, for that matter), may contain some trace nutrients… or may just smell bad.

The notion of an post-process for environmental subtlety is interesting.

The procedural motion work being done by Natural Motion (Euphoria) can sometimes approximate this, but at least while working on The Force Unleashed, we found these cases random enough that they were effectively unpredictable. Worse, the unpredictability would sometimes magnify to become absurdity. Stormtroopers doing things they shouldn't be doing, in one case it seemed vaguely sexual and just, well, just... wrong

The study of microexpressions has always interested me, and seems to be very much along the same lines as your thinking. For myself, it has led to an understanding of better portrait photography (hope so anyway!)

Wow. Thanks for the heads up Ron.
I havent seen that before.
Totally agree - really organic motion.
Probably could call it "fractal motion" - slightest wind change creates a totally new motion.
Very cool.
I wonder how many different "animations" you could pull out of it?

Very interesting post Ron. I would think part of the reason the garbage bag animal looks decent is because it is so limited. By having its 4 legs pinned down and its appendages being tiny, it forces the motion to be small and nuanced, which simply feels more true to life and alive. Reality is not the big motion, but the little details. Compare this to the giant gorilla car salesman balloon that is flailing wildly. That balloon has the exact same principals as the garbage bag, but because it is not limited in range, it quickly turns into a cartoon caricature.

That being said, if you want to design an auto-subtlety program for me...I won't complain!

Great post...as American Beauty pointed out things being blown around by the wind is the most beautiful thing in the world.
